MADISON, S.D. – The Lake Area Improvement Corporation (LAIC) campaign chairs announced they are kicking off their third capital campaign this week with a new population sign in Madison.
L-R: Floyd Rummel, Ed Fiegen, Julie Gross (LAIC), Rosie Jamison (Chamber), SDDOT: Nels Nelson, Casey Veenhof, and Bruce Cramer
According to campaign chairs Jon Knuths, Ed Fiegen and Floyd Rummel, over the past ten years, Madison and Lake County have experienced population growth of 17.5% and 18.5%, respectively.
Jon Knuths said, “Since our first Forward Madison campaign in 2006, we have seen much progress. We have actively pursued and procured new businesses, spurred housing growth, leased and sold property for new and growing businesses and partnered on a number of community projects including an English as a Second Language course.”
Fiegen stated, “This growth has contributed to City of Madison taxable sales increasing by 93% since 2000. In addition, during that timeframe, property taxes collected in the City of Madison and Lake County have increased 96%.”
The LAIC is motivated by this growth and is working diligently to ensure Madison remains an economically viable community. The campaign seeks to build on the positive momentum happening in Madison and create an even brighter future for our area.
“A successful economy is interdependent. Growth spurs more growth and positive change,” added Rummel.
With money raised in this campaign, the LAIC has three main objectives, including: 1) Industrial park growth; 2) Recruitment of technology businesses; and 3) Workforce development.
