Forward Madison
The idea to create a source of funding to expedite the growth of Madison and the communities that comprise Lake County was initially discussed in June 2006. After a comprehensive feasibility study was completed, the Lake Area Improvement Corporation (LAIC) made the decision to begin a $1.5 million investment campaign. The campaign was completed in four months and the success of the campaign led to a total private/public investment of $2.3 million.
Economic development has become a very competitive business for communities throughout the nation. Madison had recently lost two major corporations at the start of this campaign. The investments generated from Forward Madison will provide a plethora of opportunities for the area.
Information technology companies are growing within the community. Dakota State University has provided an excellent venue for faculty and students to engage in start-up companies. The LAIC strives to provide funding in the form of grants and low interest loans. The LAIC recently completed the Heartland Technology Building, a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that will house new and growing technically-savvy companies. The building has raised flooring throughout as well as a 1,000 square foot data center.
The investment funds will also be used to strategically grow the community through business retention, expansion and recruitment. A marketing campaign is underway promoting the area and all its distinctive amenities and has shown great success.
Forward Madison provides a unique opportunity to develop and create economic growth and prosperity.
